§ 7.7. Transportation improvement districts.

  • The board of supervisors may create transportation improvement districts relating to interstate, primary and secondary roads in commercial or industrial areas, subject to the procedures, conditions and limitations provided in chapter 47 of title 15.2 of the Code of Virginia, to the extent that such procedures, conditions and limitations are not inconsistent with the authority granted by this section. The provisions of §§ 15.2-4526 and 15.2-4533 of the Code of Virginia shall also apply, mutatis mutandis. The petitions required to create or enlarge a district must be signed by fifty-one (51) percent of the owners of land within the proposed district. Each district which may be created shall include only one (1) highway project, and the boundaries of one district may not overlap those of any other district.
