§ 1-2. Definitions and rules of construction.

In the construction of this Code and of all ordinances, the following rules govern, unless such rules would be inconsistent with the intent of the board of supervisors or unless the context requires otherwise:

Board of supervisors; board; the board. The words "board of supervisors," "board" and "the board" mean the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors.

Computation of time. When a notice must be given, or an act done a certain length of time before an event, the day the notice is given, or the act is done shall be counted in computing the time, but the day the event is to occur shall not be counted.

County. The word "county" shall be construed as if the words "of Chesterfield" followed it.

Gender. A word in the masculine gender also applies to females, firms, associations, partnerships and corporations.

Highway. The word "highway" includes streets, avenues, boulevards, roads, alleys, lanes, and all other public ways in the county, unless otherwise defined in this Code.

Or; and. "Or" may be read "and," and "and" may be read "or" if necessary.

Person. The word "person" includes associations, firms, partnerships, political organizations, corporate organizations, and individuals.
