Article VIII. TAX ON CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN COUNTY COURTS |
§ 9-121. Imposed; amount; collection; application to federal or state government.
(a)
Pursuant to Code of Virginia, tit. 42.1, ch. 4 [§ 42.1-60 et seq.], the county hereby assesses as part of the costs incident to each civil action filed in the general district or circuit court of the county and in addition to any other costs prescribed by law, the sum of $4.00.
(b)
Such assessments shall be collected by the clerk of the court in which the action is filed and remitted to the county treasurer. The board of supervisors may use such funds for the acquisition of law books, law periodicals, computer legal research services and equipment, law librarians, and other necessary staff and suitable quarters for the establishment, use and maintenance of a public law library.
(c)
This assessment shall not be assessed against the state, any political subdivision thereof, or the federal government.
